Replacing and Repairing Ultrex Cookware

Ultrex cookware enjoyed a run of success on the Home Shopping Network. HSN was the only distributor of this line of stainless steel skillets, pans, fryers, pressure cookers, and utensils. Though the line has been discontinued, and is not for retail sale anywhere, there are still plenty of people that still swear by their Ultrex cookware, and others with pans that need repair or replacement.

Replacement

There is no such thing as buying Ultrex cookware retail anymore. Because the line is discontinued, people cannot even request replacements from the company. Shoppers must look at secondary markets like eBay, yard sales, and online sites.

EBay is probably the easiest place to buy Ultrex cookware. Shoppers can just search by the keyword ‘Ultrex’ and be presented with dozens of choices, usually at a lower price than the original retail. This is a great choice if you need one particular piece to complete your set or a replacement lid. As always, when shopping on eBay, check a seller’s record and shipping and returns policy before buying.

A few other sites still sell Ultrex cookware in limited quantities. One site, Overstock.com, only sells discontinued items or odd lots and sometimes carries Ultrex. If you are very lucky, you might come across a piece at a yard sale or a discount retailer like TJ Maxx.

Repair

Ultrex cookware came with various guarantees and warranties when it was sold on the Home Shopping Network. Indeed, some buyers have reported problems with their cookware. There are reports of the nonstick surface peeling off, and of handles simply snapping. But, because the line has been discontinued, getting repair or company replacement has proven difficult.

Ultrex claimed to have a nonstick surface that would never peel and never get damaged; however, customers that report problems have found out the Home Shopping Network no longer works with Ultrex. In fact, HSN is contacting Ultrex buyers themselves to try to tell them how to pursue a claim with Innova, Ultrex’ parent company. Apparently, the product line had some major problems.

If you have a piece of Ultrex cookware that needs repair, the best idea might be to contact an independent repair shop and be prepared to pay for it yourself. Or you may have to simply write off the experience with this cookware and shop for something new. Given the trouble of pursuing a claim and the rather unpredictable claims of nonstick surfaces in general, it might be better to go with something indestructible like uncoated iron or copper.
